Lake Buddies do Langdale Pikes…..

image

Today’s route was a relatively short one in distance….but more than made up for it in effort required!!
It is rocky scrambly terrain from the word go….taking in Pavey Ark, Harrison Stickle, and Pike of Stickle as our 3 main summits.

Unfortunately, once again, it wasn’t a full contingent of Buddies…..
Missing from today’s walk was Leanne and Sue, and Craig….hurry back guys!

We did introduce a new member to our ranks today….my best friend Rocky….welcome aboard buddy. It’s safe to say he thoroughly enjoyed his day….and Stu’s sandwich haha!!!

Crossing the Bridge over Stickle Ghyll

This was our first outing as a group since June, it felt good to be back out there in the lakes with the buddies.

Stu, Emma and I did the Yorkshire 3 peaks in July for a “bit of fun” 😣, but it doesn’t compare to being in the lakes with the buddies.

Stu still greats all fellow walkers with a cheery hello. Although that went horribly wrong today when he passed comment on how beautiful a young couples baby boy was……only to be told it was a girl!!!
Apparently the whole blue for boys no longer applies in 2016! πŸ˜‚

The initial route I’d planned included a nice bimble along Langdale Valley to get the blood pumping and blow off the cobwebs. However, due to me getting lost on the drive through (yes again) We ended up at the foot of the mountain as a start point.

The initial climb up the side of the Ghyll is a steep one….and the ring rust was showing in all of us haha.
We were pleased to get to the top at Stickle Tarn! πŸ˜ƒ

Resting at Stickle Tarn…

We weren’t having the best of weather at the start of the walk. 20% chance of rain said the weatherman…..That 20% hit us as we climbed up to Stickle Tarn, and another 40% or so. It was still warm though, so it was waterproofs on/ waterproofs off to try and stay comfortable!

I’ve done this walk a couple of times before on my own, so I know what the views are like from this point on…it looked like the weather was going to spoil it for us today, but then we got a break in the clouds…

Maybe the weathermen had got it right?

Here they come….

Me and Rocky on the summit of Pavey Ark….

We’d reached our first summit of Pavey Ark at 700m. After a quick pose for photos it was on to the second…

Stu having a moment….

To get from Pavey Ark to Harrison Stickle we had to descend to ascend.. It is always disheartening to do this, but if the mountains were flat they’d not be mountains!!!
So on we slogged across a rocky path that overlooked Stickle Tarn…

Looking down on the Tarn…

Soon enough we were on our second summit of the day, Harrison Stickle at 736m (our highest point of the day)

Scott B on the edge!!!….

Only one more summit to go now, so off we went towards Pike of Stickle.
I had pre-warned the guys about the vertigo inducing drops off our next summit……Unfortunately I’d forgotten to tell the dog!!! πŸΆπŸ’©

Discussing climbing the one opposite next?…..

So that was it….our 3 summits achieved. All that was to do now was to get down…. the easy bit right?…..Wrong!!

For me this is the hardest part, not just as it signals the end of the walk, but the pain that shoots through my knees and ankle!! I often wonder why I do it???
Then I see this ahead……

And then I remember why πŸ‘Œ

Almost at the end now…

All in all, yesterday was once again a fab walk with great friends.

I’ve wrote blogs in the past about walking alone and how I thought I’d always be an advocate of that….
But walk with these guys just once, and you’ll never want to walk alone again πŸ˜ƒ
It really is the best days ever πŸ‘

And finally…… how all good walks should end…..at the pub!!

Tuck in guys…you’ve earned it today πŸ‘Œ

Until the next time…
